HVRAS stands for Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme. It is an inspection required by Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to inspect and verify vehicle parameters prior to registering a heavy vehicle or trailer in Queensland.
Unlike a mechanical safety certificate, the HVRAS inspection inspects and records vehicle dimensions, overall length, width, height, overhangs, axle spacings, tyre limits and gross vehicle mass (GVM) or aggregate trailer mass (ATM) ratings.
HVRAS and COI are different inspections for different purposes. HVRAS measures vehicle dimensions and parameters for registration purposes. A Certificate of Inspection (COI) is an ongoing annual safety inspection for heavy vehicles already registered in Queensland. Some vehicles may require both.
