    What is a HVRAS Inspection?

HVRAS stands for Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme. It is an inspection required by Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to inspect and verify vehicle parameters prior to registering a heavy vehicle or trailer in Queensland.

Unlike a mechanical safety certificate, the HVRAS inspection inspects and records vehicle dimensions, overall length, width, height, overhangs, axle spacings, tyre limits and gross vehicle mass (GVM) or aggregate trailer mass (ATM) ratings.

When is an HVRAS Inspection Required?

    • Transferring an interstate registered truck or heavy trailer to QLD registration
    • Registering a brand new or unregistered heavy commercial vehicle
    • Heavy caravans, horse floats and machinery trailers
    • Vehicles with modified dimensions or axle configurations

What Does a HVRAS Inspection Measure?

    • Overall vehicle length, width and height
    • Front and rear overhang dimensions
    • Axle spacings and axle group configurations
    • Tyre size and load capacity ratings
    • GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) or ATM (Aggregate Trailer Mass) ratings
    • VIN verification and vehicle identification details

HVRAS vs Certificate of Inspection (COI)

HVRAS and COI are different inspections for different purposes. HVRAS measures vehicle dimensions and parameters for registration purposes. A Certificate of Inspection (COI) is an ongoing annual safety inspection for heavy vehicles already registered in Queensland. Some vehicles may require both.
