Why do I need a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC)?
These are the laws in Queensland. Any time a vehicle is being registered in QLD for the first time or if the vehicle is being registered to a different owner, a Roadworthy Certificate or Certificate of Inspection (for heavy vehicles) must be issued beforehand.
Thankfully, we can help you! At Lewis Auto, we are experts at inspecting all types of vehicles and assessing if they are roadworthy. We are known for our superior and personalised service and for offering mobile services in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and all areas in between.

Do all vehicles need a Roadworthy Certificate?
In short, yes. All road vehicles need a Roadworthy Certificate before they can be sold, registered or re-registered in Queensland.
Light vehicles do not need ongoing inspections. Though, heavy vehicles like trucks and trailers need current certificates at all times. These renew yearly and are called Certificates of Inspection. Trucks and trailers also need a HVRAS inspection completed if they have never been registered in Queensland before.
We offer mobile RWC inspections for all road vehicles

- Lights and windscreen
If your vehicle passes, you’ll receive the certificate on the spot. If your vehicle doesn’t pass, you’ll have 14 days to arrange for repairs and call us out to re-inspect the vehicle.
Can you come to my house or workplace and complete the inspection?
Yes, if you are based in the Gold Coast, Brisbane or anywhere in between. You can either call us or input your location details above to find out if you’re still not sure if we offer mobile roadworthy inspections in your area.
Can you do a roadworthy check on the same day I call?
We will do our best to come to your location on the same day you call. If we are running a busy calendar on that day, we may need to allow 24-48 hours until we can book you in.
How much does a Roadworthy or Safety Certificate cost?
That will depend on your vehicle type and location. We can offer you a free quote when you chat to our team. Call us on (07) 5572 4508 or complete this form to have us call you.
Do I need a Certificate of Inspection (COI) or HVRAS as well?
You might need these if your vehicle is a truck, trailer or a special class light vehicle (such as limousine, taxi or special hire vehicle). Chat with our team to find out what certificates your vehicles may need.
What if my vehicle fails after the second inspection?
You will need to repair your vehicle as per the report we provide and start the process all over again.
How long does a Roadworthy Certificate last?
For heavy vehicles, the COI needs to be renewed every 12 months and lasts 12 months after that. For light vehicles, a Roadworthy Certificate will last 2 months or 2000km, whichever comes first.
